There is a comment on the shruti-1 song on soundcloud about a hardware fix for clicky envelopes. Can you tell us about how that would be done? Is there something about the fix made you decide against making it the default way of building the shruti-1?

The fix involves soldering a capacitor between two circuit points. The best way to do it is to solder wire on the corresponding pads, and connect them to the capacitor that smoothes out sharp edges on the envelope signal. You can even put a switch to enable/disable it.

The clicks occur with extreme settings - release time set to 0 ; or VCA receiving a gate signal instead of an envelope ; or square LFO on the VCA. You don't have to use those settings in the first place. I personally like super fast envelopes, and love it when my SH-101 clicks (eg when disabling the envelope on the VCA and using the gate instead). The fix adds a response time to the envelopes that makes them a bit less punchy, that's the price to pay to stay in the click-free zone.

Note that I'll open a Shruti-1 forum tonight (on mutable-instruments.net), and this is the kind of things better discussed there...

Regarding changing the wavetables, it can be done with a program that:
- takes a firmware .hex file
- locate the section containing the wavetable
- replace it with something else (a sequence of bytes describing 17 129-cycles long waveforms)

Then a conversion from the .hex file to .mid, a firmware update and boom, a new wavetable! This could also be used to tweak the splash screen, default startup settings, etc... Remember this? http://itec.uka.de/~buchty/esq1/customize.html

For the moment, I prefer working on hardware than developing crazy tools like this, but I can ensure you that creating a "Shruti-1 firmware customization shop" web app is only a matter of hours, indeed...

Wow! that envelope speed switch sounds awesome. I'll be doing that for sure.

The firmware customization sounds great to. Hopefully somebody smarter than I am will create one.

Looking forward to the new forum, I have a couple more questions.
