Slow, low level clicking noise in audio apps :(

Hi, with any of Bhajis Loops, the Sinewav demo, or my own synth application derived from the Sinewav prog, I can hear small low level clicks ticking away at a low rate (about 1 or 2 per second) in the background on my Tungsten T3. They are easiest to hear with a steady sinewav, and become more obvious for very high freqeuncy sinewaves (10kz). Interestingly, the clicks always alternate L,R,L,R... at the low rate. It's like the audio is missing a sample alternately in left, right streams (which would produce a larger click at higher frequencies. You have to listen carfully at first to hear them (good earphones recommended), but once you've noticed them, and know when to look out for them, they can be quite annoying. Any insights as to what is causing this, and ideally how it might be remedied? Thanks for any comments.
